  Do you mean there is no files under the AutoRecover folder? Actually, if you Word document is closed by accident without saving, you will get the recovery version in the Document Recovery pane, when you open the document next time.

My battery died before I could save my document. When booting up, MS ran updated. I opened the autorecovery folder, NOTHING. No files there. Auto recover was ON and marked to happen every 10 min before I started with the document. Please assist

And let me add... when you do get to the autorecovery location, it may help to organize files by date, with the newest first... that way, the file you're looking for will probably be the first on the list... Just a tip.

  If Word won't recover the autosaved file, do this:
  1. Make a copy of the .asd file
  2. Rename the file and change .asd to .doc
  (If a dialogue box appears, warning that changing a filename extension might cause the file to become unusable, and you are asked if you are sure you want to change it, click 'Yes')
  3. Open the file with Word and save it with a more meaningful filename.

Hi. I'm having problem about one file that I made.
My desktop restarted all of a sudden so when I opened it again, along the left side of the word 2007 window was the autorecovery files. I clicked on it and saved the file.
So I continued my work and finished it and clicked save. When I tried to open it, it's not even in the folder where I had it saved.
I tried doing the word options trick but I still can't find it. I tried to search .asd files and found it but it says it has been moved. Now I have no idea where to find it.

This is a very fast save interval, but it will create an almost seamless backup history of your documents. This ensures that the most information you will ever lose in the event of a crash will be whatever you completed over the course of the last minute.

For Mac:

In Word, go up and click the File menu item at the top of the screen > Preferences. From within this window, click Save.
From here, make sure the “Save AutoRecover info” box is checked. The default number of minutes set in this box will be 10, so if you want to greatly increase your coverage in the case of a system failure, you can lower this to one minute.

Now, the only warning about putting your save interval that low is that it may make your system slow down. If you notice your system slowing down after this change, increase it incrementally until you find a happy compromise between protection and performance.

For Windows:

In Word, go to the File menu > Options > Save. From there, you’ll adjust the settings the same way we did in the Mac version.

Finally, remember that you can save your document at any time by either pressing Command+S on a Mac or Ctrl+S on Windows. You can also save any time by clicking on the disk icon at the top of your window. This is always the most reliable way to make sure your work is preserved.
